Frequently Asked Questions

How much will everything cost?

Price depends on the workshop you book!

For our Standard Workshop (where we use Sterling Silver) the cost of one piece will depend on its final weight:
 0-5 grams: $80
 6-10 grams: $100
 11-15 grams: $120
 16-20 grams: $140
 21-25 grams: $160
Gemstones are priced individually. There is a $15 gemstone setting fee for 1-2 gemstones and a $45 gemstone setting fee for 3-4 gemstones.

For our Wedding Band Workshop (where we work in gold), pricing is dependent on the karat, gemstones you choose, and the design of your ring. It's typically a flat fee that covers 2 wedding bands and a completely private workshop. To get a quote, book a consultation call with us.

What's the differences between the standard workshop and the wedding band workshop?

Standard Workshop

A group session where you’ll make one sterling silver piece. Open to public booking. Book here

Wedding Band Workshop

A private experience for couples making their wedding bands together. You’ll make two rings in gold, with options for 10K, 14K, or 18K. We’ll work with you beforehand to source specific gemstones if desired. Includes extra time and one-on-one guidance. Book by scheduling a consultation call with us here.

How long will workshops take?

We strive to have workshops completed in 2-3 hours. This is dependent on how quickly you carve and finish your piece.

What kind of jewelry will I make?

Rings and pendants are our specialty! Using the sandcasting technique your options are basically unlimited! Head to our Instagram to see what other customers have made! @castedrings.

How involved will I be in making the jewelry?

You will create 90% of your jewelry and your instructor will be involved in 10% of the process. We're committed to allowing you to confidently say that you were the one that made your jewelry.

What kinds of gemstones can I use?

We source all gemstones for you to ensure they’re suitable for our process. In our workshops, we only offer flush-set, cast-in-place gemstones—the stones are placed into the sand mold and cast directly into the metal during pouring.

Because the casting process involves extreme heat, stones must be at least a 7.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. Suitable stones include:

Diamonds, Rubies, Sapphires, Garnets, and most synthetic gemstones

If you’d like to check a specific gemstone yourself, look up its Mohs hardness rating online—if it’s 7.5 or higher, it should be suitable for casting in place. If the rating is under 7.5, or if it’s a softer or porous stone with inclusions, it will not survive the casting process.

If you are interested in using a gemstone that meets all the above qualifications and want to see if we have them in stock, please message us.

What kinds of metal can I use?

For our standard workshop, we primarily use sterling silver. We do also offer gold, but because we don't always have it in stock, email us at least 7 days in advance at support@castedrings.com so we can make sure we have some for you to use.

For our wedding band workshop, we work exclusively in gold, offering rose, yellow, and white gold in your choice of 10K, 14K, or 18K. Each option has its own look, feel, and durability, so you can choose the perfect combination for your style and budget.

Can I bring in my own metal or gemstones?

For quality and safety reasons, we aren’t able to accept outside metal or gemstones. We can’t guarantee the purity of the metal, and certain gemstones may be at risk of discoloration or damage during the process.

Can I do engravings on my ring?

Unfortunately, we do not offer engravings at this time, but there is still lots of possibilities with what you can do with your ring!
